Costume Critique: Magi- The Labyrinth of Magic

1) ok, another favorite show of mine and I love, love, love, love this show and the costumes!
Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic.  The costume designer is of course the person who wrote and drew the comics- Shinobu Ohtaka

2. The costumes in this show fit perfectly the location and the period of the show. The first location of the show is in like an Arabian desert and most, if not all, of the characters are taken from One Thousand and One Nights such as Sinbad, Alibaba, Morgiana, Aladdin, and many many more.
(3 on the left the "desert" characters)
Through half of season 1, they introduce the Kou Empire which is an empire based off of ancient China
(Kou Empire royal siblings, minus the black haired one on the ground. he's the high-priest)
In season 2 you learn about the Reim Empire which is based off of the Roman Empire.
(Reim  Fanalis gladiators)
There are many many more clans and kingdoms and empires in the show and all of their outfits reflect their distinct culture

3) as for occupation of the characters: a definite yes!
I would like to draw attention to two main characters of the show. First is Morgiana
Morgiana's back story is a really sad one. Her people, the Fanalis, were hunted down and sold into slavery around the world because of their superhuman strength and speed. So ever since she was probably six, she was separated from her family and a slave to an abusive young aristocrat. Her dress is dull, torn at the edges, and very simple, reflecting the life she had sadly become familiar with. Even when she was freed (spoiler) by the help of the other main characters, she still wears the same dress probably because of the unfamiliar concept of being free. She even held onto her ankle shackles and later turned them into the weapons she now wears on her wrist.

Next is Sinbad, King of Sindria, a tropical Utopia which he built from the ground for people of all kinds to be free. In line with his occupation, as you can see, he has a very flashy and expensive outfit. It even matches his flamboyant personality
5. Again, this is a really hard show just to pick one favorite! there are countless of other characters and outfits for each character. so much diversity!!! Each character belongs to a certain culture but still has their own unique twist to their outfit to show their personality. I do really love the Kou empire outfits with all the small details and layers and accessories and the elegance to them. But wearing one of the dessert character's outfits would be a much better fit for a convention in the hot, humid Hawaii ;D
